Closed?. I tried to go here last week but it was closed, on a Thursday night?? I guess this place is out of business.

Fine. I'm biassed because I feel I was assaulted by the former owner.

The food is fine, nothing special, especially since the Mexican cooks quit.

I would no longer recommend this place.

If you want many tequila options Jalapenos may be your place. When I first entered Jalapenos near Carrier Circle in the Syracuse area the ambiance was a bit on the cheesy side but a closer look at some good food and one of the best tequila selections in NY that I have seen made me stay for dinner.

This "hole in the wall" offers two distinct environments both of which let customers come as they are. The Cantina area resembles (in somewhat a generic way) a Mexican cantina look so if you are with a group that wants a louder and bar area experience you can dine or just drink there. The other option is the dining room which is perfect for casual dining with the family or some friends who want a more traditional setting.

The selection of tequila was very impressive so if you love tequila you will not be disappointed. I was surprised that for a place with a "Full" bar did not have as extensive a selection of other "top shelf" liquor. I love Dos Equis which they have on tap along with bottled beer selections that include the turista's fav - Corona and many familiar gringo selections.

After looking at the cheesy atmosphere my food expectations were pretty low, but I was surprised by the freshness and taste of the entree's from the menu. The menu itself lacks clarity of what sides come with which dishes while letting customers know "no substitutions". I had to ask what comes with to determine what any possible substitution was although the waitress was able to verbally describe the options.

Overall if you are in the Syracuse area and have a taste for Mexican I would recommend giving Jalapenos a try - I give them THREE STARS (average), but much better than one an find in Central New York.
