Just What I Needed!.
I have had a lot of trouble finding the PERFECT wedding dress. Anyone who has been married knows that it is all about finding "the one", and that is certainly not an easy task. I went to various places to look and still never found something striking yet worth the price. I knew that wedding dresses did not come cheap, so I kept an open yet reasonable mind on my budget. I happened to be in Armory Square this past weekend when I decided to stop into SpyBaby's. I have never been in there before, but I got the feeling of a comfortable and chic Manhattan boutique. Very intimate and very cozy.
I did not have an appointment (on a Saturday afternoon which is certainly a busy time) and there were a few other brides trying on things. I met a great salesgirl who kindly offered to help me look around and find some options. She was never pushy on the sale and kept focused on the things I liked about a dress. She introduced me to a fabulous designer, Maggie Sottero, and showed me a nice selection of dresses that were both original and beautiful. She got me a changing room and helped me with trying on the dresses. When I found the one I loved - not just liked, because it's fabulous - it hit me: this is "the one".
The owner of the boutique herself came to look me over in the dress and asked me some great questions to ensure I had the right fit. She was concerned with how I felt about the dress and what I liked about it. I put the down payment down but kept worrying it would not be available for my wedding in April. The owner called me to touch base on my purchase and answer any other questions I had two days later. She also ensured me things would be ready for my wedding. I was very relieved to know that I had found a great dress at a great boutique! I would recommend SpyBaby's to ANYONE looking for an original, fashionable dress! Give it a chance and end up as happy as I am with my experience.
An experience that just leaves a cloud hanging in teh air.
I went there months ago....many many many months ago to look for a wedding dress. Now that I have had time to reflect I want to write a review:
I had made an appointment and when we got there it was like they weren’t prepared. The girl helping us had red hair and was very not into her job, she saw us and just seemed miserable. They didn’t have a room for us but finally put us on this back room where they stick some other dresses and stuff. I started trying on what was in my size you pull your own dresses. I had a back injury so when the red haired girl (cant remember he name) was helping lace up a corset I said Woa be careful this is painful I have a neck/back injury to my astonishment and my maid of honors she began to pull harder and became very aggressive it was weird and uncomfortable. I just kind of froze. I just wanted out of there. I will never have a hard time sticking up for myself again! I should have yelled at her or something but I was in shock. I just said I didn’t need her to lace up anything else. They don’t have all different sizes there you have to just get into a dress too big or small and guess how it will be. If you want to try on a dress your size ti cost 50 bucks for them to order a ample for you but you can have a gift card for their store? Um no thanks. They seemed aggravated and annoyed that I wasn’t finding one that said YES! IM the dress. But I did see one of their designers had a beautiful gown I would love to try on. At this point the red haired girl disappeared for 45 minutes in the middle of our dress search...... we were waiting for her help.... and the owner became aware and started "helping" us. When I told her the dress I wanted to try on it wasn’t there she told me I would have to pay 50 bucks. Then she’s was like is this the dress you want over and over I was like I don’t know??? I haven’t tried it on she wanted me to place the order and came off very pushy. They can GET the designers they list they don’t have them. Overall it was a very negative experience my maid of honor and I ended up leaving un-noticed. Then the owner called me to ask again if I wanted that dress I saw in a magazine and had never tried on......I said you know what it was a really bad experience and we were ignored and treated rudely she said oh and that was it NO Apology and no goodbye
I absolutely loved everything about my experience at Spybaby. I had previously gone to New York Bride and David's Bridal, not to mention a half dozen other smaller shops and BY FAR Spybaby gave me the best one-on-one service. They are laiid back enough to let you take pictures and pull your own dresses, but super professional and helpful and willing to go the extra mile and answer ANY questions you have. I found my dress there a few weeks ago and now I'm just deciding on my BM's dresses. You get a discount if you order your BM dreses through them as well.
EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE, GREAT SELECTION, HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!!!
P.S. Appointments are reccommended - especially on the weekend. You can probably go during the week and not have a problem, but if you are going on Saturday be sure to call ahead!!
DISSAPOINTED. In Oct. 2003 I tried to purchace a dress from this store for my wedding in Oct. 2004. I paid a deposit of 50% of the dress an was told it would be ready around April, fine. But when my wedding was moved up to Dec. 2003 and I purchaced a different dress. The owner would not give me my origional deposit back. I felt that was very unprofessional.
