Average Beer, Below Average Service.
I have visited twice, and I am unlikely to visit again. On my first visit, I sampled the beers produced on site and took home a growler. The honey-wheat light beer I decided on was decent--certainly not outstanding compared to the fuller-flavored better valued beers from local breweries like Middle Ages, Ommegang, or Ithaca. (The cherry lambic was disgustingly sweet and robitussin-y.)
On my second visit, I brought friends to attempt dinner. After ordering our pints, we waited for 20 minutes before the waitress returned with our brews even though the place was nearly deserted. At that point, I ordered a draft rootbeer and waited for another 15 minutes before finding the waittress standing at the bar. I explained the wait and asked for the bill--opting for dinner elsewhere. Our beer was ultimately on the house, but I doubt that I will return for another average beer at a place with such erratic service.
The Blue Tusk or one of the other Armory Square pubs is a better bet for a consistently good local brew.
Good Microbrew!.
The Syracuse Suds Factory is a casual, somewhat noisy microbrewery/bar/eatery. The Suds Factory has an extensive offering of bottled beers and brews seven of its own beers (as well as a root beer.) Its pale ale is surprisingly good and is worth making the trip to the Armory Square area of downtown.
The menu is not particularly inspired but is suitable to this establishment, offering choices ranging from Buffalo Wings and sandwiches through grilled sirloin and a market-priced catch of the day. On Fridays the Suds Factory offers a haddock fish-fry. On the whole, the fare is fair.
We were seated promptly and the service was pleasant and competent. Banquet/private dining room facilities are available for larger groups.
